“Ain’t gon let nobody turn me around. I’m walking to the freedom land.” Don’t you want to know what it feels like to live totally free? Freedom is something we all desire to experience but there are sacrifices that come along with freedom that many aren’t willing to make.
Let me tell you a story; I once met this young lady who used to drive me crazy talking about all the things she wished for. Lord, she used to make me want to get in her face and yell loudly “GO DO IT GIRL!!!”. She would come to my desk and she would always start her rants off with “Girl, I had a dream last night”. First, who has dreams every night and remembers all of them? Anyway, the young lady would say things like “I wish I had a bigger house. I can afford it, but my boyfriend doesn’t want to move.” Or she would say something along the lines “I wish I could say the things I really want to say but no one would understand me. I know God made me to be different but everybody would just laugh at me.” One day I had to ask her why she was so caught up with what everyone had to say or think about her. Her response is what sparked my journey to my personal freedom land. She said to me “it’s not safe to be your true self these days and I’m afraid of the spirit killers.”
Her response hurt me to hear because in that moment I knew I did not want to be someone who lived confined in fear. I couldn’t live afraid of my own greatness because of the lack of approval from others. God hasn’t given us the spirit of fear right? So after my conversation, I was motivated to create goals to keep myself away from being afraid. In setting my goals, I came across this passage of scripture: “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.” 1 Peter 2:9
God has called us from the dark shadows of what others have to say about us and the fear of lack of acceptance. God called us out to be leading women. He called us to lead by example and not follow by someone’s standards for us. God called us to be great. So stop being afraid to be that. Our ability to live in our greatness is living in our freedom. So don’t let anyone stand in your way of your freedom land.
