Psalms 1:1-3

“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. (2) But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in His law doth he meditate day and night. (3) And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper."

During some devotional time today, I came across this scripture. I’m a huge stickler in making sure that I’m not being conformed to this world. Being rooted in God is a major factor in our lives. Everything that we do in life (even spiritually) is based on our position in our Christian journey or journey of life in general.

I believe that everyone searches for happiness, but we can’t look for it in any and every type of atmosphere. We must be planted to find the best form of happiness in areas that doesn't include easy traffic of distractions and confusion. Based on the scripture (in my opinion), people can be happy if they reject the advice and influence of evilness (people, places, and things). We can’t follow the examples of the world. Those examples have no desire to deal with the righteousness of God 100%. We should take time to obey what God desires in us and study His righteousness day and night.

What benefits can I endure in God if I’m walking in areas that don’t represent God or His law?? Even if you don’t do what that atmosphere is involved with, the spirit of it can affect you.

  • Gossip: May not be doing it, but your circle of friends are and you’re ok with it.
  • Lust: May not be involved sexual/physically, but you and/or your peers like talking about it...OR even pornography.
  • Lies, Cheating, & Stealing: Same scenario as any other sin that can be involved. You may be exposed to it (even if it happens to you), but you’re not doing anything to keep yourself from it.

We are at a season where we want to see amazing things happen through our expectation, but our expectations can’t be formed out of areas that are attached to things that are not of God. What areas of life are becoming distractions to your expectations? What areas do you need to step away from in order to get to your answers of your expectations? Do you want to walk in happiness or be distracted by unhappiness?
