I’m sure many of you have heard the old saying “those two go together like oil and water.” Now if you know anything about this combination of substances, you know that oil and water don’t mix. When the old folks use to say it that was their way of sarcastically saying you and whomever don’t belong together.
So often we meet people (not just men) that we feel like we click with right away, but after so much time has passed you begin to see truer colors. Some things we can just look past because it’s just a personality flaw but there are other things that just can’t be ignored. I love the scripture in 2 Corinthians 6:14 that says “Do not yoke together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?” This passage is telling me that the people who get us to easily fall off from God, the people who try to manipulate your belief in God, and the people who sucker you in to sinful ways are all people who are not even with you. Every time I read this passage it makes me want to do a roll call! Who in my circle believes in Christ? Who in my circle believes in the power of prayer?
When you team up with the wrong people, spirits can be ushered into your life that don’t belong and you can put all the things God has in store for you in jeopardy. Is having that guy around who doesn’t believe in God worth the blessings that has your name on it? Roll call! Take inventory of the people you have surrounding you. I believe it is God’s will for us to be surrounded with people of a good spirit. God wants people that will intercede for you in your life. God wants us around people who will hold us accountable and will pray with us as we go through our individual journeys. Check your crew. Keep the yokes even.
