It Started As a Blind Date

So I just recently met this guy.  He’s very attractive, super sweet, and very attentive.  I was extremely reluctant about meeting this young man because I had never seen him before.  I merely ran across pictures of him on social media.  Never would it cross my mind that he would be someone I would find myself so attracted to and have so much in common with.  When the day came to meet him in my head I’m thinking “Jessica, no way! Get back in the car and go home”, yet my intuition said “Just go.”  So as I was walking up to this person I had never seen before outside my cell phone screen, my palms began to sweat from walking into an unknown situation.  To my relief, everything went great!  He was a total gentleman.  Never made a move without asking my permission and everything he said made me smile.  So even though I had no idea what I was getting myself into, I took a chance.

It’s funny, as I shared with you my recent experience, I thought about how this chance I took is a lot like our faith in God.  Hebrews 11:1 says “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”

Faith is based on taking a chance with God, not already knowing what God is up to.  Some of the greatest plans God has predestined for our lives will come as an unexpected blessing.  God doesn’t owe us a pre-game strategy but we do owe Him our trust. Faith can be scary simply because you’re entering unknown territory.  Having faith isn’t easy.  It isn’t meant to be.  Exercising your faith is no different than when I go to the gym and exercise my muscles.  Exercising is what strengthens you.

Faith is an action word.  The Bible says to us that faith without work is dead.  That scripture tells me that if I don’t DO something, I’m not really activating my faith.  My actions show God my trust in His plan for my life.  So just like my blind date, your faith will take you to a destination you were never expecting.  Get ready!
