Where's My Daddy?
I grew up in a home with my father but my daddy was distracted by a lot that was going on in his life. He had a sick wife, worked full time, commitments at church, going all over the state to preach the gospel, other women….so unfortunately my dad was never completely there. I remember when my mom would be in the hospital and my dad would leave me at home alone I would feel so scared. I would cry and ask God “Where’s my daddy?” When my parents divorced I felt like a fatherless child. My dad needed time to find himself. So from the ages of 15 to 18 I didn’t have my dad around at all. I had to learn a lot of things the hard way while I watched my friends learn from their fathers. I grew bitter and insecurities heightened and just like when I was a little girl left at home alone, I was still crying out to God asking “Where’s my daddy?”
I was at church one day, feeling broken and alone and then I heard these words: He is a father to the fatherless. I thought the preacher made that up and then I found the passage of scripture in Psalm 68:5 that says “A father to the fatherless, defender of widows, is God in His holy dwelling.” I meditated on this scripture for days and now allow me to encourage you the way the Word encouraged me. You were never without a father. You have always had your Heavenly Father. He has always protected and cared for you. God has been there for every moment your earthly father missed. God has always been your support and provider.
Never spend another day asking “Where is my daddy?” because He is the one who sits high and looks low. He is covering us and preparing us for our destiny. While the lack of an earthly father can hurt, look to the hills from where your help comes from. Our Heavenly Daddy does more for our lives than anyone else can. You no longer have to feel abandoned because God always has been and always will be by your side. To my fatherless sisters, to answer your question “Where’s my daddy?”…He’s only a prayer away. Thank You Father.
